Thor Atkinson Steel Fabrications were commissioned by Cemex UK to implement a number of major upgrades to their aggregate wash plant at their site at Poole Wharf, Dorset. This major project included design, steel fabrication and installation works. We also engaged our specialist industrial demolition company, N&R Contactors to remove the existing sand plant and the badly corroded structure so that the installation of the replacements could commence.

The plant upgrades and steel structure works included:

1. Upgrade of the sand plant steel structure and chutes to facilitate the Terex sand plant.
2. Replacement of the primary screen plus the installation of the new screen building. We replaced the primary screen with a new Hewitt Robins screen
3. Installation of the new sand plant steel structure and the sand plant itself which was supplied by Cemex.
4. Installation of new 10/20mm structure and discharge chutes.
5. Installation of a new primary screen with steel structure and walkways
6. Replacement of a conveyor head end. The replacement conveyor head end was fabricated and painted at our workshops in Cumbria prior to dispatch.
7. Replacement of the walkway, support structure and pipework to the existing Haith thickener. We also added a diffusion drum and rake frame to ensure even distribution of flocculent to the water system.
8. Refurbishment of the crusher feed conveyor
9. Replacement of the existing crusher feed conveyor. We designed a diverter chute and the conveyor which were both manufactured in our workshops. The installation process integrated the new chute and conveyor within the existing system.
10. Steel structure design, fabrication and installation of a new surge bin and crusher structure to accommodate the refurbished crusher.
